A Brethren answer to Abortion: Part 2 - It is not viable

One of the worse arguments for abortion is this one. It is not viable. The idea of viability is the idea that the baby cannot live on its own. The issue with this line of reasoning is it bases a moral decision on whether the baby can live on its own or not. If that is the basis of argument, why not allow that same reasoning go for anyone? Can't live without an oxygen tank? Well, then Post-Natal Abortion is fine. Have to have expensive medicine to stay alive? Well, that calls for late, late term abortion. In a coma? You guess it. Where does it end? Perhaps the reader may be thinking, "I am healthy. I can survive." Not stark naked in Antarctica, or 200' under the water without oxygen. Even on land, in certain environments, the chance of survival can be minimal. This is why there are such things as survival training. the viability argument is really a sad argument to try and defend the right to murder a child.

Viability does not equate to reasonable cases for abortion. It is because the baby is absolutely innocent, and defenseless, an even HIGHER degree of protection, should be given to the baby. Not less. Just as was seen in part 1, the baby, in the mother's womb, is viable, where it is. Just as we are viable where we are. It would be as ridiculous to say that we, who are living now, could get into a situation where we would be in an environment like an unborn baby, we would survive. In the mother's womb, or some structure like that, we are not viable at all! Lastly, Abortion advocates fail to realize that babies are viable, at certain points, outside of the mother's womb. Granted, it does take a lot of medical intervention, but they are viable. They live, breath, grow. Just as an individual who would be protected in the above scenarios, the baby in these scenarios should be as well.

Question: What is the youngest baby to live outside of the mother? The record is held by Curtis Means, born July 5, 2020. How premature? 21 weeks and 1 day! Most doctors put survivability at 24 and 25 weeks, with extreme medical intervention. This is the record that this author could find! Here is the report (https://www.uab.edu/news/health/item/12427-uab-hospital-delivers-record-breaking-premature-baby). So, even by the viability standards, any baby that makes it to 21 weeks is now protected. We could go through story after story of this, but just to illustrate a little more, here is one more resource: https://www.parents.com/worlds-smallest-baby-ever-born-8648055.

As a Brethren, I believe the baby should be protected even earlier, including up to conception, but using the failed argument of viability, this proves that babies can survive. Curtis is now four, going on to five years old! Truly a miracle from God. To argue such a point as viability really is a weak argument at best.

The Viability argument just does not hold up to true scrutiny. Of all the arguments posed, or that will be discussed, this is probably the least logical one. We will, of course, deal with some of the harder arguments in following posts, but this argument should be cast out, with prejudice.
