United States Mythic Materiel Nomenclature — Prefix System
Design principle
The creature name is the primary and unmodified name. The designation is only a compact prefix that tells you what the equipment is, its role, and its generation.
<service>.<class>.<tier> <Creature Name>
Optional role suffixes may be inserted only when two live designs of the same class and tier must be distinguished:
<service>.<class>.<tier>.<role> <Creature Name>
The system therefore favors names exactly as written in HOI4-mythic-nomenclature.md—including spaces, hyphens, and established wording. Do not alter a creature name into a compound or append a descriptor merely to make it unique. The prefix already provides the practical identification.
Examples:
Ar.MT.I Lion
Ar.MT.II Tiger
Ar.MTD.III Peryton
AAF.FTR.III Giant Eagle
N.DD.II Barracuda
N.CF.III Gargoyle
J.SP.IV Iron Golem

A Roman numeral is intentionally preferable to a presumed calendar year. It keeps the designation valid whether you use historical research timing, rush technology, design a variant, or play with a technology-altering mod.

Applying the system in-game
- Enter the displayed string directly as the design name whenever the equipment designer allows it.
- Use the class prefix to identify the item instantly in production, logistics, stockpile, and division-equipment lists; the mythic name remains visually dominant and flavorful.
- For an alternate design using the same role and tier, add a short, technical role code without changing the creature name. For example:
Ar.MT.III.Gun Saber-Toothed TigerandAr.MT.III.Atk Saber-Toothed Tiger. - If two otherwise identical production variants must coexist, use a final letter only:
Ar.MT.III.A Tiger-AandAr.MT.III.B Tiger-B. This is preferable to altering the source creature name. - Where the same raw creature occurs in two source rows, keep it unchanged. Context is supplied by the systematic prefix:
AAF.FTR.IV WyvernandAAF.CAS.III Wyvernare immediately distinguishable.
Scope boundary
This is intentionally a naming standard rather than a claim that every listed role has a separate, five-generation vanilla HOI4 technology line. The source framework itself defines its five tiers as a sequence of names rather than a literal historical generation or a creature combat-rating scale. The prefix system preserves that approach while making each name legible at a glance in a full-DLC campaign.
