Building My Business
March 12, 2025•325 words
I’m building my web development business, and I’ve been very busy these past few months. What have I done so far?
-
I’ve explored my options and made decisions for the immediate future: my business technical infrastructure is ready and waiting in my web host.
-
I’m going to focus, for now, on developing static sites, and on using the Hugo static site generator. (After I’m established in Hugo, I also plan to use Jekyll and a few other SSGs.)
-
In the future, I may offer dynamic sites as part of my business — probably using a Drupal multisite (one code base, multiple sites). Or, if I could, I may program my own CMS software using Ruby on Rails or other web frameworks.
-
My business is going to be a subscription service, and geared towards businesses and organizations that simply want their own web presence without much trouble. Preliminary details can already be found on the website.
-
I’ve also created my own developer blog. Got an ambitious plan for it, but right now I have little time to write.
-
I’ve been setting up my two MX Linux desktop computers — one for work, and one for study — although I will redo things when Debian 13 is released later this year. (This will give me reliable computer setups that I can use for at least three years while I establish the business). MX Linux is great, but I miss the simplicity and stability of a minimal Debian installation.
-
I’ve also been preparing the materials that I will use for my studies (which I have already started), both in web development and business. There’s a lot to learn, and I’m going to make sure that my foundations are secure. Especially now because I’m going to do this as my livelihood and for other people, not just for myself.
