Response to Taiwanโ€™s Tech King

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ The USA and Europe are absolutely capable of creating their own semiconductor industries. We invented the technology and Taiwan's tech king was trained in US schools. We have the knowledge and we have the funds to accomplish our goals. The only reason western democracies haven't already done so is because we did not consider this industry to be a national security issue before now. We felt comfortable allowing other nations to monopolize the industry.

What Taiwan's tech king, Morris Chang, and the President of Taiwan, are really concerned about is that western democracies will not prioritize Taiwan's security if the USA and Europe creates their own semiconductor industries. This is a very legitimate concern. But perhaps they have not yet realized that Taiwan will be less important to China if the USA and Europe develop their own semiconductor industries. Taiwan's semiconductor industry is what China really wants. China would like to monopolize and weaponize the industry. By eliminating the possibility for China to do so, we significantly reduce the risk of an attack. Our development of these industries will actually make Taiwan safer.

Also Morris Chang is a businessman, and he will no doubt try to convince an investor, any investor, even the US government, to invest more. That is a natural part of doing business. It's expected. Pelosi's response was simple enough. She very eloquently stated that the USA has done their homework, we know how much we need to get the semiconductor industry rolling, and this is all we are investing for now.

Since World War Two, the USA's foreign policy has been based on a set of principles rather than purely economic concerns or self-interest. Taiwan should not fear that we will abandon them โ€“ we will not. Nancy Pelosi wanted to relieve Taiwan of this fear. That is why she was so committed to visiting Taiwan despite allegations of provocations and despite China's threats.

Nancy Pelosi is no fool. I find it offensive that anyone would try to paint her as one. She's a very intelligent woman, and she understands Taiwan's real concerns. She knows the USA and Europe are totally capable of creating thriving semiconductor industries. Only a fool would believe we are not.
