NATO-Ukraine Relations

🇺🇦 I think it was a bad idea to ask NATO to skip the MAP. The MAP would have had detailed conditions for joining the alliance, and it would have contained a timeline. Both of the things President Zelenskyy is now wishing he had. Now President Zelenskyy is empty handed and has nothing but a promise of a future invite for NATO membership. He already had that.
Removing the MAP does not shorten the membership process from two steps to one step. Removing the MAP simply changes the process from one with a clearly defined set of conditions and a timeline, to one with an undefined set of conditions and no timeline. I tried to convince Ukraine that a MAP would be better.
