The USA Loves Ukraine

🇺🇦 I'm not a fan of war. I'm certainly not working for weapons manufacturers or arms suppliers. I don't work for the US military industrial complex or the US Department of Defense or any other US government agency. My only connection to the US government is that I am a US citizen.
When I think about Ukraine, I try to imagine what it would be like to be in their shoes. Imagine if the USA was not the most powerful country in the world. Imagine if we cut our military spending, like some people are advocating for, and we no longer had any weapons. Imagine we had destroyed our nuclear arsenal, like many are advocating for, and we were no longer a nuclear power. Imagine if we cut our armed forces, like some are advocating for, and we had a very small army. Then imagine that Russia attacked the USA, they invaded the USA, and they were occupying a huge portion of our territory - the entire East Coast. Imagine Russia was bombarding US cities like New York City and Los Angeles or Chicago with missiles on a daily basis, and our cities looked like the photos we see from Ukraine. Imagine people were living in the subways, thousands of people huddled together, sheltering from bombs above ground. Imagine that we had no way to defend ourselves against Russia, and we were pleading with the rest of the world for help. But everyone around the world simply said, "We're not fighting for you." Imagine that a few countries said they would give the USA some weapons, but the weapons never came, or they came much later than promised, almost too late for the USA to use them to fight back against Russia. Imagine that some of the weapons they gave the USA didn't even work, and we didn't find out until we were in the battlefield, at the frontline, trying to defend ourselves against Russia. Imagine then that the world said that it was taking us too long to recover our territory, so we had to negotiate with the aggressor. Imagine they said we had to let go of the East Coast, and give it to Russia, and that we had to forget about our families that lived in places like NH or Maine. Imagine we were told by the world to forget about our homes or land or businesses we owned on the East Coast, and instead that they would belong to the Russians now. Imagine our friends and families on the East Coast were either dead or in prison camps and there was nothing we could do about it. I would like you to imagine all of these things happening in the USA, and how that would make you feel, because that's exactly what's happening in Ukraine right now. That is Ukraine's reality.
If you really imagine this situation happening in the USA, and how you would feel if you were in that situation, then it becomes a lot easier to sympathize with Ukrainians. And it becomes a lot clearer to see what the right thing to do is. Starting a war is not the answer, but helping the weaker country defend themselves against the aggressor is the right thing to do. Love is always the right answer. I don't have any issues with the amount of assistance we have provided to Ukraine. My only issue is that we are not doing enough. xo
