Transnational Repression
January 20, 2024•214 words
🇺🇸 We will propose new legislation that makes it illegal to invest in countries that engage in transnational repression, especially the biggest offenders, Russia, Iran, and China. Now that we know what some of those countries want most of all – foreign investments – we know how to enforce positive behavior from them. Freedom House conducts research on transnational repression activities and publishes a list of countries engaged in these activities every year. It would be wise to ensure you are not on their list if you want foreign investments from the USA in the future.
We also noticed that one of the nations listed in the report is a member of NATO, specifically Turkey, and they are one of the top ten offenders. We will propose new legislation requiring the suspension of any member of NATO that is engaged in transnational repression activities. NATO is an alliance of liberal democracies. It's a disgrace to NATO that any member of the alliance would be engaged in these activities. Americans will absolutely not defend countries that engage in transnational repression.
"NATO promotes democratic values... NATO’s purpose is to guarantee the freedom and security of its members [and their citizens] through political and military means." - NATO
