State and Local Taxes (SALT)

🇺🇸 If your taxes are too damn high, and Liberals agree that they are, you have a couple of options. You can elect lawmakers that will lower your state and local taxes, or you can move to a state or region that already has lower taxes. Another option, the one Liberals are proposing, is that we create a new federal law that puts a cap on the SALT rates, and override the states. That will give Americans living in high-tax states the immediate tax relief that they desperately need.

Lawmakers from high-tax states should be focused on reducing the SALT rates, rather than expanding SALT deductions from federal taxes. We expect all Americans no matter what state they live in to pay their fair share of federal tax.

When Americans deduct their SALT from their federal taxes, the states can raise taxes to outrageously high rates, as has already happened in a few states like NY and CA, without their residents actually caring, because their total tax due does not increase. Their tax payments simply go to the state and local governments rather than the federal government.

Being a so-called donor state does not mean that a state has the right to pay less federal tax than other states. We can not allow states to steal from the federal coffers any longer, and we will pursue a class-action lawsuit if Congress attempts to create a scheme like that ever again.
