What makes a livable future?

In September 2020, CCI and Resilience Intel published The Principles for Reinventing Prosperity. They constituted a stakeholder-driven approach to building back better from the COVID-19 emergency, and working towards all 17 Sustainable Development Goals and a climate-resilient future of inclusive prosperity.
The 2022 Reinventing Prosperity Report emphasizes the value of engagement and participation for a ‘capital to communities’ approach to mobilizing inclusive, climate-smart sustainable finance. At the COP27 in Egypt, this strategy was echoed by an unprecedented number of calls for robust, ongoing stakeholder engagement—to groundtruth climate action claims, provide locally actionable insight to policy processes, and steer the delivery of finance and solutions.
The areas of climate crisis response that can benefit from early and ongoing citizen engagement include:
Climate impact assessment, including local experience and compounding complexities;
Climate-resilient development needs, capacities, and areas of value added, including economic diversification and locally rooted climate-smart asset-building;
Policy design and implementation, at local, national, and international levels;
Alignment of finance with needs, aims, and overall progress on mitigation and harm reduction;
Food systems transformation, aligned with climate, nature, health, and inclusion goals.
Whether we succeed on climate, nature, and economic inclusion goals may well decide whether billions of people have access to basic nutrition in coming decades, let alone dignity, opportunity, and prosperity.
CCI is now working with partners to host a global online consultation on priorities for a livable future. The consultation will run from November 2022 to May 2024, and will be focused on building stakeholders' insights into Resilience Intel reports and CCI-led citizen engagement efforts, to inform action at the COP28 in 2023 and the 2024 United Nations Summit of the Future on Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow.
