Wotton Town Council Annual Meeting

Wotton Town Council Annual Meeting

20th May 2024

Wotton-under-Edge Civic Centre

It was a pleasure to attend the Wotton Town Council Annual meeting last night and I took some informal notes.

A number of new faces but not able to talk due to the format of the meeting.

Paul Smith and Roger Clayton became Mayor and Deputy respectively and David (I didn't catch his surname) was co-opted.

Much of the business was dealing with the formalities for the coming civic year, councillor allocations to committees etc.

As the Council is short of members it has no power of General competence for the coming year.

A member of the public raised some issues in the town that were important to them.

Questions were asked of District Cllr Bruan about Connected Kerb funding and Greenway.

Questions were asked of District Cllr Cohen about yellow lining around Symn Lane and overhanging hedges causing junction visibility issues. There will be a hedge cutting blitz in two weeks time.

Other Business

  • Wotton Pride was discussed. An event to celebrate and raise awareness of the discrimination and challenges by the LGBTQ+ community.

  • The Council agreed to support the event and for the Mayor to lead the parade but agreed not purchase flags and bunting for civic buildings.

  • The Council also agreed to hand back £41,000 to SDC as they cannot foresee being able to install the solar canopy in the new Symn Lane car park by April 2025.

  • The Council confirmed members would attend D-Day 80 celebrations.

You'll only receive email when they publish something new.
