North Nibley Parish Council Meeting

North Nibley Parish Council Meeting

5th June 2024

It was a pleasure attending such a vibrant and professional Parish Council meeting last night.

The council is putting out a call for new members who can be co-opted onto the council.

Cllr Linda Cohen reported back on a number of issue that she is helping with. Mainly highways related issues and discussion on a pedestrian crossing.

I reported back on my SDC monthly report.

  • Some discussion about the environmental impact of garden waste collection by SDC and some talk about if a community composting scheme would be a viable alternative.
  • Brief discussion on the value of the SDC pre-planning service. Using this service would reduce much cost and angst for residents as it will flag up any planning obstacles before considerable costs are incurred.

There was a fantastic discussion on how the parish might be able to take advantage of the Community Infrastructure Levy.

Funds collected, by SDC, through this levy can be used by Local Town and Parish Councils on local needs and are termed 'local projects'. Ideas were floated about play equipment and a pedestrian crossing. Another idea floated maybe a better fit in the category of a strategic infrastructure project. A safe route to walk or cycle to Wotton. There was brief discussion of a similar Greenway project in Wotton to connect with Kingswood and Charfield and an offer to connect the relevant people to explore the possibility further. Linda suggested it maybe wise to keep the two projects separate from a funding point of view.

Myself and Cllr Cohen left the meeting at point 11 on the agenda.
