Musing on Language

Time in the market beats timing the market.

I'm realizing that the same is true of language. Working with a language slowly and consistently, reading and writing and playing, does more for your mastery than an inconsistent study of it. If you think, "I haven't nailed down this and that declension", and let that anxiety keep you from attending to the pleasures of your chosen language, you'll never progress. Do not try to analyze it to death. Learn your new bits and pieces; and in small, daily increments invest in reading or in pointing at a tree and saying, "Haec est arbor!"
