Guitar practice for people who don’t play guitar

Before I realised learning the guitar takes effort and makes your hands bleed, here is a rough routine I devised for regular practice.

Practice sessions should be between fifteen minutes and one hour per day. Thirty minutes being the most optimal.

Practice the same time everyday if possible.

Do a five minute finger warm up before shredding that axe.

Practice tuning.

Practice chords.

Practice chord transitions.

Practice scales.

Use a metronome, being out of time is the worst and a bad habit that can be hard to fix, don’t let it get to that.

Practice as slow as required until you get it right.

Narrow down the problem you are having, no matter how small. Then just practice that.

Take small breaks, not too long.

Take all the above and develop your own routine.

Some things to remember….

Remind yourself why you are learning the guitar.

Take advise positively even when its not constructive.

Enjoy the journey, it is life long.
