Smoked Fish with Seaweed and Black Sesame Broccoli Paste


Black Sesame & Broccoli Paste

  • 3 Tbsp Black Sesame Paste
  • 1 small head of broccoli or half a large head of broccoli, cut into florets and stalks
  • 1-2 Tbsp of lemon juice
  • 1-2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • salt & pepper

Smoked Fish & Seaweed

  • 2 strips of wakame seaweed, soaked for 10 mins, drained and pressed dry
  • 2 strips dulse seaweed, soaked for 10 mins, drained and pressed dry
  • Tin of smoked sprouts, sardines or oysters in oil
  • 2 Tbsp of Sesame oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp of fresh ground ginger
  • 1 heaped Tbsp of Black Sesame & Broccoli Paste
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce or Coconut Aminos
  • 1 or 2 Radishes, finely diced


Black Sesame Broccoli Paste

  1. Steam the broccoli. Remove the florets when soft, continue steaming until the stalks are soft then remove as well
  2. Place in Bamix blending container, with garlic, salt, pepper, and lemon juice
  3. Blend to smooth consistency

Smoked Fish and Seaweed

  1. Heat Sesame oil over low-medium heat
  2. Add ginger and radishes and saute until soft and fragrant, maybe 5 mins
  3. Add seaweed and enough water to just cover, add soy sauce and Black Sesame & Broccoli Paste. Mix to coat the seaweed.
  4. Simmer until seaweed is soft and most of the water has gone
  5. Add smoked fish with oil and mix through until fish has broken down and mixed through seaweed


  1. Could possibly add some fresh garlic toasted after ginger and radishes have softened
