Passage: Colossians 1
(H) Highlight
- [23] if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.
(E) Explain
- Paul is on a wonderful sermon here, encouraging the saints and reminding them why they are Christ’s and how they are Christ’s. Here Paul is encouraging them to continue in the faith, remain stable and steadfast … do not shift to the left or to the right! Remain in the HOPE OF THE GOSPEL as delivered to them from Paul. This gospel has been proclaimed in all creation … hold FAST to it!
(A) Apply
- I keep coming back to this … that I must remain in the faith, endure, overcome the trials, be ready to suffer, be ready to STAND for Jesus … not that I currently have really hard time at the moment, but that these days are coming. Will I need to endure? Will my children? Will my grandchildren? I’m not sure, but these passages REALLY stand out to me and prick my soul. I must remain grounded. I must remain in tradition. I must remain in God’s Word. I must remain on the true, right, straight path … or I will easily be persuaded otherwise. The days are short. The days are coming.
(R) Respond
- Oh Lord, God Almighty … prepare my heart NOW for the things to come. May I indeed continue strongly in the faith. And, if tribulation does not come in my lifetime, prepare me for the now, the present - as your good plans would allow. Also, if not now, prepare my children and their children for the need to overcome. May they love YOU Lord, and you alone. Amen. Thank you for the peace that comes by the blood of the cross.
