Amend the Law?

Amend the Law?
By Jim Brookins Sept 17th, 2024

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
How do you resist the devil? By using the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells within you.

"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."

James 4: 6-10 You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God?

Therefore anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us?

But he gives more grace. That is why Scripture says:
"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."

We miss the message if we don't see that God desires that we live according to the spirit in us, that is his Spirit. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth, what is right and just.
Psalm 40:8 "Idesire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart."

C.H. Spurgeon
"What is this but to call your LORD unjust? Should the law be amended to suit your desires?
Should its requirements be accommodated to ease your insolence?"

Should it be that whatever we desire we get? That our ways are right. Or that standards to live by are just nice sayings that once worked in the past and we don't need to continue. After all, we are better; basically, all are "good," and others are doing it, and so can I. God forgives and just asks for forgiveness. No! No!
What pride and arrogance is that?
This double standard results in willful sin and enmity against God. An example is adultery having another lover when you are supposed to be faithful to just one.
Romans 8:7
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can it be.

We have renewed minds. The Bible teaches us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Sounds like you get a new mind if you are born again. You get a new body because the old has passed away and behold all things have become NEW.

Revelation 3:15-16 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Jesus wants you to be for him or against him, but not sitting on the fence. In other words, you need to make a decision about where your loyalties lie.
