Tietoturvallisia hakukoneita

Google ja Bing hallitsevat 96 % internet-hakujen markkinoista. Googlen indeksi on 40 miljardia sivua, Bingin 14 miljardia. Venäläisistä yli 50 % käyttää Yandex Searchia, jolla on 2 miljardin sivun indeksi. Kiinan internetissä hallitsee Baidu.

Näiden lisäksi tarjolla on hyvin vähän aitoja hakukoneita. Useimmat suositut hakukonevaihtoehdot toimivat metahakukoneina: ne ottavat hakutuloksensa yleensä Bingistä ja joistain muista lähteistä, ja esittävät ne uudessa järjestyksessä.

Jotkut metahakukoneet mainostavat etsivänsä tuloksia useista kymmenistä hakukoneista. Käytännössä merkittävää ei kuitenkaan ole kuinka monta tulosta kone löytää, vaan kuinka hyvin se osaa valikoida relevantit tulokset ensimmäisten 5-10 vastauksen joukkoon. Esimerkiksi DuckDuckGo löytää paljon tuloksia, mutta esittää ne monien mielestä epämielekkäässä järjestyksessä.

A zero-tracking private search engine based in Switzerland. Swisscows does not store users' data. Swisscows also deems itself "family-friendly", with explicit results entirely omitted. Swisscows uses Bing for web search.
