Morning After

Sam woke when the sun was no longer warming the bed. Her head still on Steven’s chest she listened at his rhythmic heartbeat dancing with his deep even breaths. Smiling she lifted her head and propped it on top of her hand to get a better look at his sleeping face.
It had been a stressful couple weeks. Watching over her as she healed from her physical wounds and soothing her emotional wounds would take its toll on anyone. But right now, right now none of that mattered.
Tracing his face with her gaze she couldn’t help but think how handsome he is. Not in an glamorous movie star way but in a bewitching rugged, ‘I can take on the world during the week and hold you in my arms all weekend while watching the snow fall’, kind of way.
Sam wondered what he was dreaming. His eyes darting from side to side under the cover of his lids. Was he reliving the past few days? Was he battling villains? Was he dreaming of her?
Turning her head to the side she laid her cheek directly on top of his chest. She traced her finger over Steven’s pecks. She knew he was an avid biker but was in awe by his firmness. Insecurity flashed through her as she realized her body isn’t as firm.
Subconsciously she pulled away, sliding her body off Steven trying not to wake him. As she reached the edge of his body, she felt his arms cup around her waist and scoop her body to rest on top of him. She looked to see if he was awake and saw his eyes flutter again. She laid her ear softly down to match the cadence of his inhalation.
Straddling his pelvis, she felt his engorged manhood pressing into her through the thin layers of cloth separating them. Thoughts of how wonderful it would be if he woke up at that moment, raised her lips to his and slowly worked his way into her.
Sam’s pulse quickened as her thoughts kept going further down the path of desire. She felt herself involuntarily drive her pelvis into his as a longing breath escaped her throat. Steven’s even breathing wasn’t even anymore. Raising her head quickly to see if she’d awakened him, she was mortified taking advantage of a sleeping man. She raised herself to all fours and crawled out of bed. Slow enough to not wake him but quick enough he couldn’t pull her back down.
Sam needed to release some tension. She grabbed her sweats and sneakers as she tip toed out of the room cautiously shutting the door behind her. Dressing in the hall she needed an outlet for her startling tension. A run, she needed to go for a run.
Turning left out of the drive in she picked up her pace. Many questions rumbled around her head. What is she doing with her boss? Is this a fling, another notch in his belt? She’d heard the rumors of his philandering ways before she’d started working for him. Funny she never saw signs of it working so closely with him. She’s heard about executives having affairs with their secretaries before. Is that what this is, some tail to brag about with his other CEO buddies? It didn’t seem to fit his personality, but how well does she really know him.
Getting herself worked up in a different way the running didn’t seem to be helping. Her anxiety fueled her pace and she picked up speed. Attempting to outrun her swirling thoughts Sam ran until her lungs threatened to collapse. Putting her hands on her knees, Sam tried to catch her breath looking around for something familiar. All the houses looked the same as if a contractor produced them with a cookie cutter. She couldn’t see any landmarks and the sky was overcast messing with her sense of direction. She turned around and started jogging the opposite direction hoping something would stand out. She could see the sun wanting to come up, but the heavy cloud cover made it hard for the rays of sunlight to penetrate through. After thirty minutes of searching, to no avail, the heavens opened, and wall of water came rushing toward her. Patting down her pockets looking for her phone she found nothing. She never leaves without her phone. Putting her hands in her light jacket pocket feeling a hole. She didn’t know if her phone burrowed itself to freedom or was involuntarily set free, but either way it was gone.
Too early to knock on a door and ask for directions, she wouldn’t know what to say anyway. “Do you know how to get to Steven’s cottage?” Do neighbors know their neighbors here? They sure didn’t in New York. She looked around for reprieve from the rain until a more appropriate time to ask to use someone’s phone. Spotting a tree, she ran under wrapping her arms around her chest to keep warm, to wait. As time drew on a chill crawled up her legs threatening to overtake her. She slid down the trunk of her protector to hug her knees. Her body starting to shiver. How could she be so stupid running in an unfamiliar place. Resting her forehead on her knees wishing for the rain to end and the sun to break through the clouds. Her sweaty soaked body reached the uncontrollable shaking stage of her body trying to warm itself. Exhaustion threatening her cold achy muscles. Fighting to stay awake she started singing, “If I lay here, If I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world?” Not able get her brain to cooperate she sang the same line over and over till it was only slurs. “If I, if I, would you…”
Warm rain reached her consciousness. Her body shivers slowly subsided and her awareness crept out of long tunnel back into reality. Opening her eyes confused when she came nose to nose with Steven wrapped in his arms.
“What are you doing here?”
“I live here,” he smiled. She looked around and noticed they were sitting in his shower.
“How, how…” she really didn’t understand what was going on.
“I woke up and couldn’t find you. I waited to see if you’d popped down to the market, but you were taking too long for that,” droplets rolling into his mouth as he talked. “I drove around until I found you asleep under a tree. When I couldn’t wake you, I got worried. You were so cold to the touch I knew I needed to warm you up. The only thing I could think of was to put you in a warm shower.”
“But why are you in the shower?” She pulled back and realized he was fully clothed and looked down at her fully clothed body before letting out a sigh of relief.
“I couldn’t let you go,” he whispered. “I needed to feel you breathing.”
Still exhausted she laid her head against his chest and enjoyed the heat from the water as well as the heat from his body.
“I promise I was never this much drama before I met you.”
