Let's get out of here, Steven says to Sam as he watches the water run down her hair that is laying flat on her back. Steven can see every curve of her body from the soaking t-shirt that is clinging to her body.
"Yeah, I am ready to get out."
"No. I mean, let's get out of town. let's go on an adventure."
"Paris?"
"Hahaha. No." Appreciating that Sam's humor is coming back. "I know a place that I have been meaning to check out. We will be gone a few days. Do you have any loose ends you need to tie up."
"There is only one loose end and it is in the safe."
"Good then, he will be safe in the safe for a couple of days. It will be good for him to think about his behavior. We can leave this all behind for a couple of days before dealing with the mess."
"Okay." Sam says. With less excitement than Steven was hoping for.
They help each other climb off the floor of shower and Steven turns the water off. Sam tries to push the water out of her clothes. Steven pauses a moment as he watches her ring the water out the t-shirt that refuses to pull away from her. Steven starts trying to pull his shirt up over his head. He gets it as high as his fully extended arms can pull it and is required to ask Sam for help from inside the shirt. Laughing, Sam grabs the bottom of the shirt and finishes pulling it over Steven's head. "Thanks, I was getting a little claustrophobic in there." Steven says. Sam smiles and says "your turn." and raises her arms straight above her head. Steven grabs the bottom of the shirt and begins to peal it off her sensuous body. Distracted as he watches himself expose her body, starting at the navel and moving up revealing her breast covered by the wet sports bra that is not thick enough to hold back her hardening nipples that are going cold now that the warm water has run off them. "If you go that slow while pulling that over my head I am probably going to suffocate ." Sam quips. "I will know what it is like to be waterboarded." she throws in.
Taking his eyes off of Sam breasts, Steven gives her a sheepish grin. "Sorry." He say as he quickly pulls the shirt over her head. He grabs a towel and wraps it around himself; while reaching under the towel and pushing his sweats off that he had hastily put on when he went to look for Sam. "Just leave your clothes in the shower, I will get the house keeper to clean them up." Steven said as he stepped out of the clothes now piled on the floor of the shower. Steven stepped out of the shower and walked out of the bathroom without turning around for fear that Sam would see how turned on he had gotten undressing her.
Steven grab his phone and calls the his travel assistant to start making arrangements for their travel. Steven is facing the full length mirror and he can see into the bathroom. He watches as Sam rolls the wet yoga pants down her legs and struggle to get the material to let go of her ankles. Finally she kicks free. Then she works her fingers under her sports bra and slides it over her breasts and wiggles out of it and drops it on the floor with the other wet clothes. Steven can see her full body unclothed. She is not perfect but she is beautiful. There is something stupidly alluring about Sam. She grabs a towel and dries herself of with it. She finishes by wrapping it around herself. When she looks up and sees Steven looking at her through the mirror. She smiles a shy smile at him not knowing how long he had been watching her. Steven looks at his phone and it is ringing. "Hello." He says. The assistant on the other ends exclaims "Sorry, I did not hear anything on your end of the line, I think I dropped your call." Blushing Steven says it is okay and finishes getting the travel plans made.
The afternoon is a hustle, but everything went smoothly. Steven drove to the airport and pulled into his private hanger, the ground crew had pulled the Honda Jet out of the hanger and it was already running. Steven had his travel assistant check the weather and file his flight plan to Reykjavik. The storm was letting up. It would be an IFR departure but the weather in Iceland had cleared out and forecasted to be clear skies. Sam still did not know where they were going, Steven kept saying they were just getting away. Sam looked at Steven curiously as he invited her to take the co-pilot seat. "Are you really going to fly this." Sam said incredulously as he handed her a headset. Steven did not answer her query as he made his call to the tower "Ground control, Honda Jet, November Niner Six Niner, is ready for departure. Steven was not able to fully watch Sam as her was getting his taxi instructions. They were third inline for departure. Before long Steven was giving the small jet a full throttle and watching the airspeed climb. He decided that he would give Sam a performance take off. He let the jet's speed get high enough to pull it off the runway keeping it flying in ground effect. The little jet wanted to climb and he had to actively keep the jet level, 10 feet off the ground. He let the speed build to 180 knots. As they neared the end of the runway, he smoothly pulled back the yoke, more aggressively than one would on a normal take off. The jet pitched up and quickly pulled away from the runway, causing Sam and Steven to be pulled back into their seats. The only thing in front of them was fog they were flying through. Steven looked over and Sam to see what she was thinking. She was looking straight ahead with her head against the headrest. He could not read her expression and wondered what she was thinking. They broke out of the clouds into clear blue skies. Steve let the throttle off at 250 knots knowing that he was already 40 knots over the speed limit. They chatted for as the world faded behind them. The small talk focused on the flying and the plane. Before he was aware, it was time to check in with the Reykjavik tower, "Reykjavik control, Honda Jet November Niner Six Niner, requesting permission to land."
Constantly moving, they parked the jet, and left it in the hands of the ground crew. They hopped in a rental car and headed down the road to Skalholt. Steven watched Sam as she watched the scenery roll by. He wished he could read her thoughts. Every once in a while she would turn to look and him and give him a smile and then turn back to watching the world outside. Going into winter, the days are short this far north and the night was coming. The storm had left a dusting of snow across everything. There was snow on the ground but not enough to completely cover it. As they pull up to a small building the last of the light of fading from the sky.
They go inside where they are greeted by the young man behind the counter. "Hello, Mr. St. George. We have been waiting for you." They are given a map and then it is a 10 minute drive down a dirt road. They park at a little cut out in the road with a small sign that Steven can't read but this is the right place. It is a mile hike, lit only by the two flashlights they are carrying, down a narrow trail, that crunches under their feet. They come to a clearing in the trees and there is a faint glow of light in the center of the clearing barely lighting what looks like a clear soccer ball. As they approach, it looks as warm and inviting as it did in the pictures. Sam exclaims "it is beautiful. I did not even know this existed."
"I am glad you like it." Steven responds. "I learned about them a while ago. I have been meaning to take a trip out here. I know it is not Paris for the Urban explorer, but I am glad you joined me."
"Well, it is not like you told me where we were going, but it is beautiful." Sam said as the entered the closed in porch of the dwelling. They kicked off their shoes and moved to the main area where the bed is set up with the lamp that is just bright enough to make the room navigable. The temperature is comfortable, but not so warm that Steve would not want to snuggle up in the thick comforter on the bed. They drop their backpacks and soak in their surroundings. There is a basket of fruit and a bottle of wine. Sam pours two glasses of wine and hands one to Steve and brings hers to her lips and tastes it. It is nice she says, when she notices that Steve has not touched his. Steven recognizes that he has been frozen there. He has never drank alcohol. Sam asks, "are you okay?' Blushing, Steve responds, "yes, I am fine, it is just that I have never drank alcohol before."
Sam giggles, "Really? Mr. mysterious CEO, has never drank alcohol?"
"True story."
"Well don't drink it for me."
"I won't for you, but I want to drink it with you. I can't think of another person in this world that I would rather experience new things with."
"Mathew?"
"No. Moments mean nothing to him. Discarded like a gum wrapper. You are helping me learn to be in the present. For so long I always worried about the future. Making sure I had a plan… at the cost of now. I need to do a better job a balancing the future with now."
"You are welcome. Come sit." Sam said as she settle in on the bed. They set their glasses down on the night stand, as Steven clumsily climbed in the overstuffed bed. They sat in silence as they both let the weight of the last two weeks slip off them. The silence enveloped them. Sam turned the light off and the darkness became as heavy as the silence. It was a moonless night. Their eyes adjusted to the darkness and a million stars came into view. They both slid down into the bed and into each other letting the expansiveness of the universe open above them ringed by the silhouette of the trees in the clearing. Steven put his arm under Sam's neck and pulled her into him. "I picture myself being held to the earth by a magnet and at any moment the magnet could turn off and I could float off into space" Steven spoke in a reverence tone that matched the feeling of the moment. Sam squeezed Steve tighter but said nothing as she stared into the heavens. In just a few minutes Sam's breathing had soften into a slow rhythm. Steven looked at her closed eyes and did not want to move a muscle in fear of disturbing her. He looked back up to the stars and picked one to focus on and fell asleep staring at it.
