TL;DR:

  • 200,000 REP raised.
  • 200,000 REP moved to SAFE.
  • Work has begun on building user interfaces to facilitate escalation game and fork participation.
  • When UIs are finished, we will initiate the forking process.
  • All REP holders must participate in the fork or they will lose their REP!

Back in August I created a contract on Ethereum and asked strangers on the internet to fill it with 200,000 REP, knowing full well they would lose 100% of the REP sent to it. I didn't really expect it to fill, but I figured it was worth a try. Of course, the internet being what it is, the most ridiculous thing happened and the contract was filled.

Shortly after it filled I withdrew the 200,000 REP to the designated SAFE where it is now sitting. With the REP secured, we are now writing all of the necessary decentralized user interfaces so people can interact with Augur enough to complete the fork. This is necessary because the original Augur v2 UI no longer works properly and fixing it looks to be a bigger task than just writing some small decentralized UIs. We will not be building a full Augur v2 UI replacement, just enough that people can participate in the escalation game and fork. There will be no trading tools written.

Once the UIs are built, tested, audited (where appropriate), and deployed, I will then create a market. Once that market's end time is reached, I will use the 200,000 REP to dispute against the truth, hopefully driving the system to a fork. Once it forks, users will have ~2 months to move their REP to one branch or the other or lose it all.

It will still take some time to build the UIs, so no one needs to take any action right now, but it is generally recommended to check-in about once a month just to see where we are at in the process.

As a final reminder: REP is not a passive asset! Holding REP comes with responsibilities, the primary one being fork participation, and if you and/or your custodian fail to participate you will lose your REP.
