of your recent moments, what was a time of joy? Write on that.
Is joy one of those rare, fleeting moments? Getting a new computer was pretty fun. I told my housemate, "I'm happy" with the new device. I spent time typing blogs and writing lots of pages with it.
So, what's the difference between happiness and joy? Happiness kind of sits somewhere between feeling content and pure joy. That’s how I see joy—like when you hear about a baby being born and it finally gets welcomed into the family. The joy a mom feels absolutely seems to come from the idea of her kid arriving.
Getting the computer kinda gave me a little spark of joy. Was it really joy, though? Maybe "joyous" fits better. But honestly, it brushed past me pretty quick. Now, I’m just feeling pretty good because all that searching and trying to get the computer finally paid off. I think about grabbing some coffee and hopping online afterward—that’s kind of like joy if the news is good. Sometimes caffeine and positive news can make you feel pretty elated. That’s more like happiness or fulfillment. To me, that’s also a little bit of joy.
In the end, I guess I don’t really know what true joy is—except maybe that one time I got some money and went on a cruise with a good friend. Going from being broke to suddenly having cash and enjoying some nice things—maybe that was what joy feels like.
