Seeking Goodwill

Prompt: When was last time I did something nice for friends or family, and what spurred me to do it?

My old friend asked me to make some crocheted squares in her hint for something she wanted. I was happy to help and gave to her about ten squares. My friend is someone who likes to give away blankets to help people experiencing homelessness. After I gave her the squares, she assembled them into a blanket. A close acquaintance of hers, who also runs a charitable service in her city, helped by giving that blanket to someone in need. She inspired me to take part in this activity, and the squares had been sitting at my home without a future purpose in my mind.

My friend has a very caring nature, and a psychologist once mentioned she might have a bit of a martyr complex. I believe that her efforts are genuine and driven by her desire to help others. For my part, I saw this project as a way to stay connected and relevant with her, especially since she seems to grow more socially conscious each year. Reflecting on it, I realize that my motivation was also influenced by a wish to earn her approval and be part of something meaningful for her.
