Defense of the Bible, Part 1: Argument: It is full of contradictions

The contradiction argument is not new. It goes back to the beginning (Genesis 3). Satan introduced doubt, Eve was deceived, Adam chose to sin. All who try to cast doubt on God's Word follow Satan's attack.

From then till now, mankind has tried to destroy God's Word by undermining and casting doubts in rebellion against God. Let us address this argument with a series of questions and conclusions.

First, if the Bible has so many contradictions, why do non believers, and even some claimed "believers", feel the need to attack it more? Are not the contradictions enough to stand logical assessment and convince the modern audience? The fact many still, in spite of this attack, accept and believe the Bible, shows the uniformity and perfection of the Bible. Instead of being destroyed, the Bible grows stronger. Some may say these individuals who turned to the Bible are in need of a “crutch” or they are weak of mind. How then do very intellectual doctors, scientists, physicists, and engineers turn to the truth of the Bible? Are they weak of mind? I think they are more intellectual than most, including the ones who are “critics” of the Bible.

Second, what do the doubters do when someone has actually answered the charge to EVERY known contradiction? To date, the answers have NOT been refuted, from what I have seen. Instead the response is, "That's just your interpretation". That is not even a half argument. The contradictions are touted without addressing the solutions offered. Third, if the Bible has so many contradictions, and is faulty, why have nation's and kingdom's very existence been tied to obedience and acceptance of the Bible? This is reinforced by Proverbs 14:34. Fun fact, Proverbs is known as a book of wisdom.

Fourth, if the Bible has so many contradictions, why is it the number one stolen Book in the world? Why would it not be relegated to last years textbook pile?

Fifth, if the Bible has so many contradictions, how has it survived, and INCREASED in usage? No other book has been applied to such pressure and scrutiny and still come out ahead. Entire governments have banned and attacked the Bible. It still stands!

Sixth, if the Bible has so many contradictions, why are millions still willing to face torture and death to have one verse, let alone one page? Even still, untold thousands risk and give their lives to spread the Bible, when it was illegal? Think William Tyndale, Martin Luther, John Huss, John Wycliff and his 80 translators, etc.

Eighth, if the Bible is so full of contradictions, why was it single handedly the one book to break the middle, or dark, ages and usher in the age of learning and insight?

These are just my questions. There are better Theologians, and scholars, who have asked deeper, more penetrating questions that have still not been answered by critics, scoffers, and doubters alike. But go ahead and keep throwing out the "contradictions" argument as if that is an intellectual argument.

Why is the Bible still standing? Two very quick answers. First, it is a Divine book, given to all of mankind by God Himself through inspiration and preservation. Second, we have His promise that it will never be destroyed: Psalm 102:26; 119:89; 119:152; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 5:18; 24:35; Luke 16:17; 21:33; 1 Peter 1:25.
