Proof for the Bible Part 1: Historical Proof
March 3, 2025•510 words
One of the strongest points for proof of the Scripture is the Historical proof of the Bible. The World has made several claims regarding the Bible in its Historical claims. Those attacks have been not only refuted but reversed against the attackers. What are some of these attacks?
1) Many doubted the existence of King David and even the nation of Israel before Solomon. This lasted until 1993 when the ancient mound called Tel Dan, was discovered to have these words carved, "House of David" and "King of Israel". From this time, only those who reject any proof now reject David and Israel's existence.
2) Many reject the existence of Jesus because "He is only mentioned in the Bible". In 115-117 AD, Tacitus references Christians who are named so after Jesus who was executed by Pontius Pilate. Josephus also writes, in his Complete Work, also names Jesus as well.
3) For the longest time, many scoffers rejected the notion of Hittites. They did not accept the truth Uriah, and many other aspects of the Hittites. Many times throughout History, most rejected the existence of this warrior like people as being just a false statement from the Bible in text such as Genesis 23:3, 4; Deuteronomy 20:17; 2 Kings 7:6. To follow this is fascinating in its history: https://www.hopechannel.com/articles/arts-and-culture/the-hittites-a-civilisation-lost-and-found. Once again, the Bible was proven correct!
We of course have not covered every possible scenario, but here are a few more less developed proofs:
- The chronological order of the kings, as the Bible lays out, is correct. This is attested to by the Moabite records.
- Eilat Mazar, using the Bible to discover archaeological sites says, "What is amazing about the Bible is that very often we see that it is very accurate and sometimes amazingly accurate" (Quoted from Using the Bible As Her Guide).
- Names of people and places have been found around Jerusalem: Ostraca, the names of Pashur and Meremoth, even a letter requesting re-inforcements to help fight against the Edomites attacking Israel.
All of this adds up to one sound and undeniable truth. The Bible has the Historical proof. It has been verified over and over, and only those who willingly decide to ignore the truth will continue to argue against the Bible. This begs the deeper question. If the Bible has been proven right by what was historically shown, why should we doubt that the Bible is wrong in what it says about the future? Or even more, why should we doubt what it says about who we are and who God is? Even deeper, why should we doubt what it says about all of mankind, God's wrath on sin, judgment, justice, and yet forgiveness being offered to those who repent? The obvious answer is that if the Bible is right in one area, there is a higher probability it is right in everything else. Some may argue against this by saying,
"Well, it may be right historically, but not Scientifically! That is where I stand!"
Great! We will address that in the next post.
