Does God exist: Evidence 3 - Cosmological Argument

How many of us have stopped to look at the night sky? In our day and age, light pollution is very real, and for many, the idea of seeing stars that stand out in the night sky in brilliance, is hard to understand. Step away from the city, the lights, the brightness, and the universe, from the naked eye, absolutely blows the mind in its entire vastness and complexity. The universe is huge! We have not seen the edge, and the universe is even still expanding. There are many great minds that have turned their eyes to the heavens, and have learned so much about the planets, and stars.

Through this study, the universe becomes a very strong argument for the existence of God. While many may try to squeeze the universe into a godless box. These individuals present one case after another to make the argument for why God does not exist, and then use humanistic answers to "prove" their position is correct. However, when their philosophy is put under scrutiny, things start to fall apart. Of course, we will not be able to cover everything, but some general reasons why the cosmos points to God being in existence.

  1. The size of the universe
  2. The complexity of the planets
  3. The nature of the earth

Let us start with the size of the universe. There are many who hold to a belief that the universe must have aliens or some other beings. Other wise, why be as big as it is? When we study the Scripture, the Bible tells us several things: 1. The universe was created by God. 2. It fits in the span of His hand. 3. The biggest and most powerful stars in the universe are created and named by God. 4. If we cannot probe the ends of the universe, and it fits in God's hand, and God created planets and stars that dwarf the ones in our solar system, would we not consider the universe just about the right size to do one purpose, point us to consider the existence of God? 5. If the universe was created by God, it then is owned by God. If the universe responds to the decree of God, and we as man, cannot even understand the full complexity of the universe, should we not then submit to God who created it?

This is just some thoughts on the universe, but we get a little closer to us. The complexity of the planets show forth, not evolution, but creation. For Evolution to be true, there should be some uniformity. This does not mean that everything has to be the same due to different distances from heat, different positions in the heavens, etc. But there should be some uniformity. For example, the planets should be spinning the same way, right? They are not. two planets, Venus and Uranus, spins backwards on their axis. According to Evolutionary theory, and in connection to the laws of thermodynamics, when the big bang was about to happen, all the stuff, was in a compact space and spinning. Everything should be spinning the same way. There are so many questions in this one statement but we will not delve too deeply into it. Suffice these to ask: If nothing was before the big bang, what was compressed? How did all the matter fit into such a small space, when matter did not exist in the first place? Can we see any examples of heat or radiation dispersion to show this explosion? If so, why is there no uniformity there?

Then we come to the earth. The earth is the only planet we have found that can sustain life. The earth is in such a precious position. One degree off and life would not exist. One iota different in distance to or from the sun, we would freeze or burn. The right type of molecules to have an atmosphere where we survive, the moon that we have, the position of the earth on its axis to the sun, each one of these things must be perfect from the very start. Random explosions can not give us this precise calculations. It would be impossible. Then we have the amount of earth to water ratio, the type of water, rain, clouds, everything. Truly the earth is in what is called the goldilock location. That just perfect spot cannot happen by chance.

Occam's razor fits this. There are so many assumptions on the evolutionary theory in just these three things that when we, who come in with Creation, have just one assumption, then the one that has the less assumptions must be the right one. the fact the universe is designed and put into place as it is, shows that God does indeed exist. But now we turn to the moral argument next week.
