Does God exist: Evidence 2 - Teleological (Design) Evidence
August 4, 2025•945 words
The Teleological argument is a strong position for the truth of God's existence. To flush this out, in a small blog post such as this, would demand the entire resource from several major apologetic ministries. Therefore, the best thing possible is to link to those apologetic sites, allowing a deeper study of what will be laid out here.

For the purpose of this blog, the case for God's existence will be made from the world around us. It should be noted that when we speak of God here, we are not establishing, just yet, which God we are talking about. Just to ad clarity, the God in focus is the God of the Christian Bible who in Genesis 1 and 2 spoke and created all things. There will be some threads to articulate the God of Christianity compared to the other gods of the world, but for now, this should suffice.
The first argument under the Teleological evidence is the beauty of nature. Evolution operates within a closed circuit, meaning it cannot and does not allow for anything outside of itself. Any attempt, such as the attempt to attribute life on earth starting out in space and coming here, only pushes the issue to the cosmos. It does not answer the question. Evolution only works within the confines of its own operation. The moment anything is allowed to work within its system, it allows for the existence of an external force, or "cause", in this case, God. Therefore, beauty does not serve a purpose, and the mechanism's required to provide this beauty cannot be answered by Evolutionary ideas. Yes, the argument can be made that the different aspects of color, radiance, etc. was done to evolve the species to have protection, attract mates, etc. but that does not answer the fundamental question of how. It answers why, and even Creationists will agree with those notions. At best, this is a net neutral argument for evolutionary theory and Atheists. The fact there is color, and beauty speaks of design.
Second, we have the complexity argument of creation around us. The world is complex. How does Evolution account for the complexity? If, by using the process of evolution, one desires to present the case it evolved, their are major hurdles that must be overcome. The Bombardier Beetle is one example. This little bug has a factory that produces scalding hot chemicals that it blasts at its enemies when attacked. If mixed at the wrong time, it will burn the bug on the inside. Too late, it is ineffective. Then there is the storage containers inside the body that had to be developed. Not one at a time, but the whole thing working together. If there is just one error in the DNA code, that bug is now extinct. Yet it isn't.
Please, dear reader, if you are an Atheist, please follow along:
Do you consider yourself honest? If yes, please continue. If not, then anything said will be ignored outright.
Please honestly answer the following questions: Your shirt or clothes you wear, was there a designer, or did a factory blow up and it come out in that state? If it blew up, then that is not being logical, reasonable, and inconsistent with any of the laws of Thermodynamics. If you say it was designed, Great! I appreciate your honesty.
The cell phone you use, or the car you drive, did the factory blow up, or was it designed? If it blew up, then that is not being logical, reasonable, and inconsistent with any of the laws of Thermodynamics. If you say it was designed, Great! You are doing a great job staying logical and honest.
The buildings we see, did a construction site blow up and a building came out, or was there a designer, planner, engineer? If it blew up, then that is not being logical, reasonable, and inconsistent with any of the laws of Thermodynamics. If you say it was designed, WONDERFUL! One more question.
The universe around us, the world we live in, even your own body, mind, hands, eyes, etc. Did that come because of an explosion, or was there a designer? If you say it happened by chance, then my friend, you just committed the logical fallacy called evasion. You were willing to accept the truth of logic, until you did not want to go where the evidence leads. That is not honest.
Our mind is more powerful than any super computer; the universe more complex. There is only one answer for this: a Designer. If the above questions cause you to accept this truth, then you are no longer an Atheist, you are a Gnostic. That will bring about a whole different set of questions.
The third and last argument within this section, is how uniform things work. When we study how math is able to calculate and organize things, this uniformity does not happen from chaos. The world is too orderly to be anything but design. Of course, sin has been affecting that so the world is not perfect, granted, but that bolsters the position that God exists. Not detracts from it. Math works because God designed it. Science works because God designed it. The uniformity we can compute shows a Designer who is much wiser than we who are human.
Again, this blog post is not meant to answer EVERY question but to give just a quick point of reference. Yet, there are more arguments for the existence of God which we will look at next week.
