FOSS is missing a good Todoist alternative

There's a glaring lack of good FOSS or even privacy-respecting software for task management akin to Todoist or TickTick. The only semi-advanced app I know of is tasks.org, but that's Android only.
If you are primarily interested in privacy, you could try Apple's Reminder app. If you activate advanced data protection, you get E2EE, which is probably the most privacy-friendly option. However, it's still not FOSS, and you ultimately have to trust Apple.
Before using TickTick I used beorg, which uses Emacs Org-Mode as it's system and syncs to your own server. Again, not FOSS, but at least you control your data and don't need to share it with anyone if you don't like it. But it worked beautifully in conjunction with my wife's Android running Orgzly. The user experience is ugly, though; it lacks the slick interfaces that the commercial, non-free alternatives provide.
For us, TickTick beats everything in terms of convenience and cross-compatibility - we make sure not to store any sensitive information on their server. I'd love to be able to self-host it, though.
If you're willing to compromise on features, you can consider open-source notes apps like Notesnook or Standard Notes. These apps prioritize privacy, but you may sacrifice some convenience in terms of reminders and ease of use.
