Analytical Comparison prose Extract and film Scene

In chapter 10, page 145 of Touching the void, and Season 2 episode 6 of Ray Mears survival, we can see that the two situations they both are in are similar but their reactions are not. They both are in a different state of mind about being in a marooned situation. Joe is marooned on a snowy mountain while Ray is marooned on a tropical island. In the video, we can see that Ray's feelings and emotions were calmer, more peaceful and happy. Whereas, in the third text of Touching the void, Joe describes his feelings with words like weariness, confused and guilty. Another way we can tell that Joe and Ray's feeling were different is when Joe says "my frostbitten fingers became the most common excuse" and when Ray says "this is what I couldn't see last night, paradise". Joe keeps trying to look at the negatives and keeps on blaming his hands for being frozen, and Ray looks at the positives, he doesn't pay attention to the fact that he is trapped on the island, but he instead he sees the island as "paradise".

In the film scene, there were a lot of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. For example, for diegetic sounds, we can hear the waves and the sound of the trees moving. For the non-diegetic sounds, we can hear the calm/happy/upbeat music and also some voice overs. The use of these sounds tells us that this wasn't such a scary situation after all. They had also used bright colours to show this to us.
