The Sun and The Cave

Adapted from a Whatsapp forwarded message. Original source unknown

One day the Sun and the Cave struck up a conversation. The Sun had trouble understanding what “dark” meant and the Cave didn’t quite get the meaning of “light”.

So they decided to visit each others' places.

The Cave went up to the Sun and said, “I see...This is light.... This is wonderful! I can see how this contrasts with dark. Let's go down and see where I have been living.”

The Sun went down, and as its light illuminated all the darkest corners of the cave's home, it said, “Hmm... I still don't understand the darkness you spoke of.”

We have been told that heaven is a destination for us to strive towards.

Perhaps it is instead a state of mind for us to cultivate.

We all encounter darkness in life.

Fear, guilt, shame, and other negative forces can turn us into inhabitants of dark caves of despair.

Perhaps heavenly light is something we can carry with us to illuminate the darkness we encounter.

We lose our sight without the light.
