Passage: Ephesians 4
(H) Highlight
- [17] Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. [18] They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. [19] They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.
(E) Explain
- Don’t walk like non-believers. Their minds are futile. They are alienated from God and are darkened in their understanding. They are ignorant of God and they have hard hearts toward Him. They have been like this for so long, they are callous and now have given themselves over to sex, greed, and impurities.
(A) Apply
- I think it’s good to remember and/or see what life is like without God. This is where I could end up if not diligent and striving for holiness and righteous living. Live in the opposites of these: Continue to renew my mind. Do not isolate myself from God. Remain in the light. Have a soft heart to know more about God. Do not grow cold. Stay engaged.
(R) Respond
- Lord, may I live in ‘the opposites’ of this passage. May I walk in your ways. May I not stray to the right or to the left. May I grow and seek after and call to You as my salvation and my life. Amen
