Passage: Philippians 4
(H) Highlight
- Philippians 4:9 - What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
(E) Explain
- Paul has set an example to follow, as an Apostle, as a 'discipler', as a mentor. He is asking the Philippians to practice what they have seen, to follow the example given. Also, there is a promise here, that in practicing, in obeying there is peace from God.
(A) Apply
- 'practice these things' is standing out to me. As a disciple of Jesus, as a follower, as a believer, there is still 'doing' and 'practicing'. I know my salvation is not tied to this, but my faith is and my sanctification is and my growth is. I need to stay engaged in spiritual disciplines and practicing of following Paul and of course Jesus.
- This may look like reading God's word, rejoicing (v. 4), thankfulness, all the fruit of the Spirit, loving others, serving others, standing for righteousness, etc.
(R) Respond
- Lord, may I look to your Word and to Jesus as my example and practice all that You have for me.
