Passage: Hebrews 1

(H) Highlight

  • Hebrews 1:1-2 -
  • [1] Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,
  • [2] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

(E) Explain

  • God used to speak to us, or His people, through the prophets He appointed to do so. But now, in these last days, He has provided Jesus. Jesus is the revealed WORD of God. Not only that, but there's a theological drop here ... Jesus is also HEIR of ALL THINGS and it is revealed that Jesus also created the world!

(A) Apply

  • God is always speaking to us, through the prophets, through Jesus, through the written OT and NT, through His church, through the Holy Spirit in us, and through others (Godly counsel).
  • I must not ignore how special and important this is.
  • We are no longer (or perhaps ever) allowed to say or think that God doesn't care or that He's too distant. He is present. He is here.
  • Jesus is not my pocket friend or Sunday school lesson. Christ is the appointed HEIR of ALL. He is in control. Everything falls or will fall to bend the knee. He created us. He deserves our submission and worship.

(R) Respond

  • Lord, remind me you are always present and always speaking. May I never take advantage of this or be lukewarm about this. Help me to worship you as THE rightful KING. No king, but Christ. Amen.

Other Thoughts

  • What a way to start the book of Hebrews! So rich.
