- Hebrews 2:14–15 - Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. (ESV)
(E) Explain
- Since we as sinful people are in the flesh, Jesus became flesh like us. He "partook of the same things". SO THAT ... through His death He would DESTROY the one who has the power of death (satan). By doing this, JESUS delivers us from a lifelong slavery (living in the flesh) to a lifelong eternity with God the Father. Our sin problem has been taken care of! We have been DELIVERED from death and brought into the light.
(A) Apply
- This is really important ... I must remember this when fighting sin, battling my flesh ... this is a past tense position I find myself in. In Christ, my flesh has been conquered and delivered from death and positioned as a new creation in eternity. I have the power of Christ living in me now. I must now and I'm able now to walk in the Spirt and not in the flesh. I have the choice, the power, and the ability to put to death, to put off, and put ON Christ.
