Passage: 1 Timothy 2
(H) Highlight
- 1 Timothy 2:1-2
- [1] First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, [2] for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
(E) Explain
- Paul is urging prayer and thanksgiving for our government leadership so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life. That it would be dignified.
(A) Apply
- This is really heard in our current political climate, yet I must do it. I must be in prayer for our country’s leaders. God appoints kings and rulers and is in complete control and is decisively governing the US and the world. My call is to pray.
(R) Respond
- Father, I know you are in complete control. May I be reminded of this and pray for my leaders and those over every level of governance. Those in power have been instituted by You (Rom 13). May my prayer and behavior be an example to others (1 Pet 2). Amen.
Other Thoughts
- V.1, 2, 8,
- Romans 13:1 - [1] Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
- 1 Peter 2:13-17 - [13] Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, [14] or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. [15] For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. [16] Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. [17] Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
