Passage: 1 Timothy 6
(H) Highlight
- 1 Timothy 6:20–21
- O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” for by professing it some have swerved from the faith. Grace be with you.
(E) Explain
- Paul is closing out his first letter to Timothy. He encourages Timothy to guard all that Paul has invested in him. He's warning Timothy to guard and be watchful. Avoid the false teachings and babbling held up to be "knowledge" as this has caused some to deviate from the true faith and from the truth. Paul blesses Timothy with God's grace.
(A) Apply
- Working backwards, I must remember it is God's grace that provides the power and the endurance and the knowledge, etc., to press on. Lean in on God's grace in my life. It's everywhere. Be mindful and careful what I listen to or not. Be on guard against foolish talk and worthless arguments unless we are are talking about Biblical truth and the gospel of Christ. Why? Because this could pull me away from the faith. It could pull up the anchor.
(R) Respond
- Lord, thank you for your grace in my life. Thank you for Biblical teaching and unlimited resources in our time and day. By the power of the Holy Spirit, may I stay on the straight and narrow ... the path that leads to LIFE! Amen.
