A Remarkable Offer: Defense Mechanism
Sept. 13th,2024 by Jim Brookins
Defense mechanism and true fortification that protects against imperceptible threats. That is constantly monitoring and protecting our digital content from risk, keeping our precious information safe.
This sounds like digital lingo, and it is.
Psalm 27:1
"The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?"
Psalm 27 speaks to us about a spiritual barrier of divine protection that surpasses any security system designed by man.
When the conditions we face are beyond our control. If the situation overwhelms us, do not fret, but take everything to the LORD and pray for the promises of God.
Look back on the victories he brought you during those bleak moments when everything humanly possible was worthless. Is there anything he cannot do? Nothing is impossible when you put your trust in him.
As alarming and dire as the condition, go directly to the LORD and seek his help. This is what Jehoshaphat did when the army of Moab and Ammon were barreling down on them.
2 Chronicles 20:3-4 Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the LORD, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. 4. The people of Judah came together to seek help from the LORD; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him.
Acknowledge God and claim his power overall because all glory, power, honor, and praise are his.
Vrs. 6: LORD, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hands, and no one can withstand you.
Jehoshaphat was pouring out praise to our God for who he is.
He was also in humble prayer, showing his inadequacy to face the opposition and to draw totally on God's infinite wisdom and power.
Recall what Jesus said in Matt. 16:18b: "I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
Jehoshaphat's prayer mentions God's friend, Abraham, and reminds God of his promises to Abraham and his descendants.
We too are part of the family.
"Father Abraham had many sons.
Many sons had Father Abraham.
I am one of them, and so are you.
So let's just praise the Lord!"
vrs. 7 Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham, your friend?
vrs. 8 They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your name, saying,
vrs.9 If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, plague, or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your name and cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.
1 Corinthians 6:19 What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"
Here is the fantastic realization that this promise is God's promise, not ours; we lay claim to it in God's victorious name.
vrs. 12 Our God, will you not judge them? We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.
The circumstances are beyond your control—no doctor, no pill, no diet or exercise. No human resources exist; all is hopeless.
Our eyes look to the hills, and yet there is no hope.
Then look above the hills that you thought would provide the solution and give absolutely 100% of the situation to God.
"The most powerful form of prayer is to set your case before God. Just to lay all your sorrows and needs and then say LORD, there it is." C.H.Spurgeon
No fancy or eloquent words Simply humble yourself in the sight of the LORD, and he will lift you up.
Jehoshaphat did nothing more than ask for help, plead the promises, and confess their condition, expressing their confidence in God. Then said our eyes are upon you.
vrs.12 Our God, will you not judge them? We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you."
Wait...look to the LORD, our God.
What a humble prayer, what a powerful God!
Present your case to God and give him praise for the graces he will give you in future victories even before the grace is given. What more can he say to whom he has said? Praise the LORD, glorify honor, and praise. No circumstance is bigger than God.
The end of Moab and Ammon was defeat, and Jehoshaphat took the plunder and gave God all the praise.
