230505 - Salah and Dua (prayer) are different concepts

The Salah and the Dua are two separate concepts, and related behaviours.

How do we know that? Because what is being said is the prayer (dua), which is asking to establish the Salah.

[14:39] "Praise be to God who has granted me to my old age Ishmael and Isaac; my Lord is Hearer of the prayer."

[14:40] "My Lord, let me hold the Salah, and also from my progeny. Our Lord, and accept my prayer (dua)."

[14:41] "Our Lord, forgive me and my parents, and the believers on the Day the reckoning is called."

[14:42] And do not think that Allah is unaware of what the wicked do. He is merely delaying them to a Day when all eyes are watching.

[9:11] If they repent, and they hold the Salah, and they contribute towards zakat (purification), then they are your brothers in the deen.

We explain the revelations for a people who know.

[9:12] And if they break their oaths after making their pledge,

and they challenge the authority of your deen;

then you may kill the leaders of rejection. Their oaths are nothing to them, perhaps they will then cease.

  • If the opposite is breaking the covenant, then keeping or committing to the treaty is upholding the Salah

Also see

[19:58] Those are the ones whom God has graced from the prophets from the progeny of Adam, and those We carried with Noah, and from the progeny of Abraham and Israel, and from whom We have guided and selected.

When the revelations of the Almighty are recited to them, they fall down (Sujuddan) yielding, and in tears.

[19:59] Then, generations came after them who lost the Salah, and followed desires. They will find their consequences.

  • This Salah they have lost is the what the previous generations had submitted to...

[19:60] Except for whoever repents and believes and does good works; they will be admitted to Paradise, and they will not be wronged in the least.

[19:61] Gardens of delight; that the Almighty had promised His servants in the unseen. His promise must come to pass.

[19:62] They will not hear in it any nonsense, only peace. And they will have their provision in it morning and evening.

[19:63] Such is Paradise that We inherit to any of Our servants who are righteous.

Allah does Salah too. Recall

[33:41] O you who believe, you shall remember Allah frequently.

[33:42] And glorify Him morning and evening.

[33:43] He is the One who Yu'Salli's you, along with His angels, to bring you out of darkness and into the light. And He is ever Merciful towards the believers.

What Salah does,

[29:45] Recite what is inspired to you of the Book and hold the Salah, for the Salah prohibits immorality and vice; but certainly the remembrance of God is the greatest. God knows everything you do.

and

[16:90] God orders justice and goodness and that you shall help your relatives, and He prohibits immorality and vice and transgression. He warns you that you may remember.

Gulled later shared,

[20:14] "I am Allah, there is no god except Me, so serve Me and hold the Salah for My remembrance."

[17:110] Say: "Dua on Allah or dua on the Almighty; by whichever you dua on, to Him are the best names." And do not be too loud in your Salah, nor too quiet; but seek a path in between.

  • This part is a little fuzzy for me, I'm not sure what the connection is between Salah and Dua here in this ayat

Then Sabir responded that Salah is associated with behaviours like

  • Dua
  • Sadaqat (charity)
  • Zakat
  • Dhikr (remembrance)

and the other characteristics of Salah are here

[70:23] Who are always maintaining their Salah-ti'him.

[70:24] And they set aside part of their wealth.

[70:25] For the seeker and the denied.

[70:26] And they believe in the Day of reckoning.

[70:27] And they are fearful of the retribution of their Lord.

[70:28] The retribution of their Lord is not to be taken for granted.

[70:29] And they maintain their chastity.

[70:30] Except around their spouses or those committed to by their oath, there is no blame.

[70:31] Whoever seeks anything beyond this, they are the transgressors.

[70:32] And they are trustworthy and keep their pledges.

[70:33] And they uphold their testimonies.

[70:34] And they maintain their Salah-ti'him.

[70:35] They will be honoured in gardens.

Later in the evening, Kayvon shared

[51:15] The righteous are in gardens and springs.

[51:16] Receiving what their Lord has bestowed to them, for they were before that pious.

[51:17] They used to rarely sleep the whole night.

[51:18] And before dawn, they would seek forgiveness.

[51:19] And in their money was a portion for the beggar and the needy.

[51:20] And on the earth are signs for those who comprehend.

[51:21] And within yourselves; do you not see?

See the connection between this passage and the characteristics of Salah? Is there such a thing as ritual dua (or prayer)? Note: ritual dua not ritual Salah.
