Greetings of peace.

What was it like to be in this army of God?

Everything happens with the permission of Allah.

The Quran says, in English,

[2:250]

And when they came forth to Goliath and his soldiers,

they said:

"Our Lord grant us sabr | patience, perseverance ,

and make firm our foothold,

and grant us victory over those kaafireen |denying"

These soldiers also say,

"How many a time has a small group beaten a large group with the permission of God, and God is with the patient ones! | saabireen"

See [2:249].

Also, there's this

[3:145]

It is not permitted for a person to die except by the permission of Allah in an appointed record.

And whoever wants the reward of this world We give him of it,

and whoever wants the reward of the Hereafter,

We give him of it.

And We will reward the thankful.

[3:146]

And many a prophet had a large number of Devotees fighting with him.

• They did not waver by what afflicted them in the cause of Allah,

• nor did they become weak,

• nor did they become discouraged;

and Allah loves the patient ones.

[3:147]

And they did not say except:

"Our Lord, forgive us our sins

and our shortcomings in our responsibility,

and make firm our foothold,

and grant us victory over the denying people | kaafireen."

[3:148]

So

Allah gave them the reward of this world

and the best reward of the Hereafter;

and Allah loves the good doers.
