200309 - Reasons to learn how to pronounce the Quran

God be praised.

I came across this YouTube video a few days ago, and because of YouTube's new child policy, I wasn't able to save it as a bookmark in the Claire playlist.

The person in the video states a few reasons for learning "tajaweed" which I gather is the art of pronouncing and reciting the Quran "properly".

Brother Mohammad and many others think this isn't necessary, indeed, some twisting of the tongues can occur in different renditions of the Arabic text that give a different meaning of the world altogether.

Mohammad cites 87:15 and 108:2. Both ayat mention the word "salah", however, with tajweed, one emphasizes the Salllah, whereas, it can also be read more plainly as salah. The former implies "prayer", the later, implies "burn" or something. That investigate is still ongoing.

However, I'm still in favour of pronouncing the Quran properly, and indeed, in rendering it in different recitation styles. Why?

  1. The emotion of the Quran conveys nicely. Abdul Basit's recitation evokes certain emotions. Sadullah Khan's too. In a way, you can convey emotion via different recitation methods, depending on the situation, and what God is having you or allowing you to do.

  2. It's nice
