my lesson about our landlord is to expect less and do nothing

today we requested a screen for our window—a working stove (ours has been broken for almost a year) and that our landlord install a new wax ring for our toilet
because it stinks in the bathroom for no apparent reason
our building manager came to us—the landlord would not cross the street to talk to us
building manager says the whole building is missing window screens
says the landlord (doesnt do ovens or refrigerators) a quick search reveals that maintenance of the fundamental appliances presented at the time you rent a place is the responsibility of the landlord
the landlord says he will install a different type of stove for the whole building (he said this six months ago and has done—nothing !!)
our building manager told us that her bathroom stinks too and the landlord says the building has systemic plumbing problems that cause this
the building manager says her sink is broken—and her oven is broken too (she cooks on a hot plate)
i complained to her about the heroin neighbors and the sex offender neighbors
i alluded to the fact that our landlord is a meth head
who wrongly accused us of calling our towns courthouse to complain about him (we have never called anyone and this tiny borough doesnt even have a courthouse)
i wondered out loud where the $50/month rent increase is going—or where our whole rent is going (if we cant get any help from our landlord)
with some wisdom from my gf (and thinking over my patterns of making an unrealistic expectation—getting naturally disappointed—and getting mad at the person i expected of) my lesson from this rental situation is to expect less from my landlord and to do nothing with respect to him—make no more requests or contact
we will make do as long as we live here (and we like living here—as sick as that is !!) and the next action to take with regard to my landlord (aside from depositing rent in his account every month) will be to terminate the agreement
anything more than that (emotionally or in action) would be too much
we dont have enough money to move right now (or that might be a serious option) were saving
our landlord recently evicted our left and right neighbors (heroin people) due to rent nonpayment and behavioral problems
i dont think our landlord will try to evict us (wrongly—presumably for asking him to maintain his building) but if he does (as much chaos as it would cause) it would be an early gift
