Meditating with your eyes open
I don't remember if this techique was already presented to me in past, by I've recently got in touch with it through a Shaman called Don José Ruiz. I watched a video presentation where he suggested this exercise. I decided to implement it right away. It made sense to me instantly, and I wanted to try it out.
I started practicing that same day. The idea is simple.
Assuming you meditate eventually:
- start meditating as usual (assuming you usually do it with your eyes closed);
- notice the state of your mind
- find your way to hold that state
- open your eyes
- re-enter that state (or seek it) after opening your eyes.
After starting meditating with that technique, I can tell you that meditation has improved in good means.
The technique helped to extend the meditation state further in different moments of the day. If you don't get into full/deep meditation state, you certainly will get at least into a more still state of mind.
Very useful for when you're overwhelmed. But of course it is not that necessarily easy, there are moments where you are quite stressed, exhausted, tired, etc. While in these states, practicing requires more dedication. But it's a very nice training for hard times.
