Five minutes of doing nothing

In the last post, I mentioned that a new year's resolution could be to do nothing for 5 minutes. I have done it and I am writing about it now.

I put 5 minutes in the cellphone timer, sat down on the sofa, and crossed my legs.

I kept silent the whole time. The cellphone was giving notifications of messages. I was looking at the electric toothbrush charging station directly in front of me. I kept my legs crossed and could feel the blood pumping through my leg. My mind did not wander to research, but wandered to the first memorable parts of Gymnopedie no. 1 which could be played using the right hand. Because I kind of knew who was sending the messages to the phone, my mind wandered yet again to the nationality of the message sender. Somehow I doing free association. Japanese guy, the movie Drive My Car, what was it about, oh what happens when men when their women are not around, and then Gymnopedie no. 1 plays again in my mind. Finally, the timer went.

I will do this again tomorrow and write about how things went.
