Volleyball Dynasty | Sa 1/21

I woke up trying to go with Gigi to the Breaking Bad cast meetup near Northpark, but it was a lot more popular than we expected and by the time we arrived the guaranteed spots (secured by buying a particular tequila) were mostly gone and the line wrapped around the shopping center. We decided to give up instead of waiting for a chance to see Walt, so we went to Costco since I needed gas and it ended up being a fun trip as well.

The food court at Costco never disappoints and I enjoyed the frozen mocha drink, but I accidentally walked into Gigi since I was in a hurry to get through the checkout line in reverse (food court is past checkout) and forgot she was right in front of me. That brought back some trauma of a similar situation in Sam's club when I was a kid and I was just as ashamed, but this time it was busy and we got lots of looks. Thankfully the rest of the trip was good though. We tried samples, looked at clothes and books, and browsed some of the corners and sections I would never have gone to otherwise.

Afterwards we went back home and I did nothing for a while until I had to leave for dinner with family for Lunar New Year. That drive was not fun, and actually longer than my ones for work, but we got it done and I actually had some fun that night. It's always nice going to mom's house knowing I'll be fed well, but during dinner the topic of volleyball came up and it turns out some of mom's side of the family played back in the day. Grandma even mentioned how it was typical to play with 9 or 6 players in her time, which shows just how far back her career was.

I also learned that mom and her sisters trained in things like swimming and various track and field events, mom actually getting a knee injury in high jump. It's strange to hear about this since I wouldn't assume any of them did sports back then, but I guess most athletes turn sedentary after they retire anyways. Eventually Fred called it a night so I left at the same time, but not before watching some LAN videos to pass the time in the bathroom. Getting to relive the festival was amazing, especially the video of Excision's set and the robot gunning down the crowd. It's getting me excited for my next rave.

Nancy also told me about some cool events she's been going to lately (chocolate art gallery, dance lessons, cook-off), which all sounds pretty exciting. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I'm happy to get to talk with her and she's initiated a good amount of the messages. It kind of reminds me of talking with Jasmine back in the day.
