There's this new, very popular documentary called The Social Dilemma. It talks about the role social media plays in today's society and the impact it has on us, every single day. It's been getting a lot of traction in many communities (well, Netflix is also promoting it heavily), and it's reaching a mainstream audience.
All of this seems somewhat awakening. I've been hearing, thinking, and talking about the evil of social media for a long time. I've been mostly off it for the past 1.7 years, and I take steps to avoid it every day. Heck, even the fact that I'm posting this on a privacy-centered blog platform, and not Facebook, shows that I care.
But now, thanks to this documentary, more and more people are starting to wake up and see how they're becoming machines controlled by an algorithm, whose sole goal is making money.
A good life is a life built on intentions. On clear ideas that are debated, internally and externally. Not on spontaneous, ill-witted, illogical whims, because that's how I'd call the primal cravings online platforms activate in us.
Maybe this is already obvious to you, but, if it's not, watch Social Dilemma. Yes, I know, Netflix also is part of the attention economy. After watching, take action. Delete social media, change your habits, start reading books.
Only happiness and clarity will be a result of that.
