Lesson 15: Resilience

20 Lessons From 2020

It took me a while to find a word that would fit what I wanted to say. Strength? Immunity? Resistance? Nah. All of these are valuable traits, but there is one far superior; resilience.

2020 was a year full of surprises. Some handled them very well, others didn't. What separated these two groups was resilience; or lack thereof.

To be resilient is to be capable to recover. To stand back up after a blow. To continue existence against all misfortune and obstruction.

From Merriam-Webster:

Definition of resilience
1: the capability of a strained body to recover its size and shape after deformation caused especially by compressive stress
2: an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change

To build it you have to let yourself fail. Take on risk and not deliver.

Scar tissue is stronger than regular skin.

Lesson fifteen: to survive, be strong. To thrive, be resilient.
