Les outils de français

Here are some tools that aid me in learning French. Hopefully, some of these could help you too.

Translator

  1. DeepL - freemium: available on web, iOS, Windows and macOS

    1. Miles better than Google Translate since the translation is more natural-sounding
  2. Mate Translator - freemium: as a browser extension, also available on web, iOS and macOS

    1. Only use this on my phone for languages that are not available on DeepL

Grammar/spelling checker

  1. LanguageTools - freemium: available on web, iOS, macOS, Windows, as a browser extension, email add-ons, and office plug-ins

    1. Kinda like Grammarly but supports other languages as well, including French
  2. Reverso - freemium: available on web, iOS, Android, Windows, and as a browser extension

    1. I use the synonym function the most btw
    2. The grammar/spelling checker once in a while

Dictionary

  1. WordReference - free: available on iOS, Android, and as a browser extension

    1. As my go-to bilingual dictionary
  2. Larousse - available on web (free), iOS (paid), and Android (paid)

    1. Specifically for French definition and synonym (in-depth), and the conjugation table

Others

  1. Anki - available on web (free), iOS (paid), Android (free), Windows (free), macOS (free) and Linux (free)

    1. Flashcard app; highly suggest creating your own deck
  2. Language Reactor - freemium; available as an extension on Chromium-based browsers only

    1. Able to display two subtitles at once on both Netflix and YouTube
  3. GlotDojo - freemium: iOS, Android, and as a browser extension (Chromium-based browsers only)

    1. Similar to Language Reactor but available as an application

Social

  1. Meetup
  2. iTalki
  3. Tandem
  4. Discord (duh)
  5. Duolingo Events

At least these are the ones that I can think of atm.

You'll only receive email when they publish something new.
