Bev's Infamous Pound Cake
June 27, 2026•193 words
My mother learned this recipe from her Dad (Nick Flora) - and it makes a wonderful dessert, and very sinful French Toast for breakfast... It's your basic pound cake except that the pound of fat is half butter and half sour cream.
Ingredients
1 cup soft butter (do not use margarine)
2 3/4 cups sugar
6 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp flavoring (1/2 almond, 1/2 vanilla)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream butter and sugar till it's fluffy.
- Add eggs, 1 at a time; really beat it well.
- Mix dry ingredients, then add to egg mixture w/ sour cream (1/2 at a time).
- Add flavoring
- Line bottom of pan with wax paper.
- Bake 1 hr 20 min at 350 degrees. If you use bread pans (loaf pans), bake for 45 minutes (no wax paper), but turn the pans after 25 minutes.
- Cool 10 minutes, remove from pan.
- After its cool to the touch, dust with powdered sugar.
- Guaranteed to add 1 pound to your body for each slice...
