Bev's Infamous Pound Cake
My mother learned this recipe from her Dad (Nick Flora) - and it makes a wonderful dessert, and very sinful French Toast for breakfast... It's your basic pound cake except that the pound of fat is half butter and half sour cream. Ingredients  1 cup soft butter (do not use margarine)  2 3/4 cups sugar  6 eggs  1/2 tsp salt  3 cups flour  1/4 tsp baking soda  1 cup sour cream  1 tsp flavoring (1/2 almond, 1/2 vanilla)  Instructions  Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Marinades
These are my two favorite marinades - for grilling steak and/or salmon. Steak Marinade  This is a basic Teriyaki sauce. The oils and wine in it help tenderize the meat. I like to use shoulder cuts; personally I prefer a London broil cut because it is thicker. Ingredients  1 cup soy sauce  1/8 cup vinegar (rice vinegar is preferred)  1/4 cup brown sugar  1 cup white/rice wine  2 tablespoons lemon juice  1/4 cup fresh chopped garlic  1/4 cup peanut/canola oil  1 tablespoon sesame oil  ...

Ingredients  1 cup Ketchup  1 tablespoon Horse Radish  1 teaspoon Lemon Juice  Instructions  Squirt the ketchup into a bowl. Add a heaping tablespoon of horse radis...

Grandma Canning's Shrimp Dip
Who knows if Grandma Canning really invented the recipe. She moved here from Ireland when she was just a girl and had this reputation for making "spaghetti" out of rice and ketchup. In any case, she introduced this wonderful appetizer to our family. It is much better than her recipe for spaghetti. Ingredients  1 can of shrimp parts  8oz of whipped cream cheese  1 teaspoon milk  Parsley for color  1 tablespoon of horse radish  Dusting of garlic powder  Scallions for flavoring  Whole Whea...

Egg Bread
My grandfather (Nick Flora) baked pies and egg bread. He also made pasta by hand - meaning he mixed the dough, rolled it out on the dining room table, sliced it with a paring knife, and let it air dry before turning it in dinner. As kids, we were told it was spaghetti, but as an adult, I think it was really fettuccini. He share this recipe for his favorite bread with me verbally on April 1, 1995. Ingredients 5 eggs (4 in bread, 1 on top) 6 cups flour 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup melted butter 2 Ta...
