Visited a dying relative and spent some time with him while he gasped in some of his last breaths. One of the many things it's stirred up lately is a recognition of how little time we actually spend in this life, even if we live to old age. A human lifetime starts and ends in a relative flash.

Everything that seems so solid and important now will be gone in a cosmic second. First from my awareness and then, in another cosmic minute, from any trace of ever having existed at all. Everything as I now know it will very soon dissolve.

We're here in this world as it is for really a very, very short stint. We can spend that time condemning it, appreciating it or some combination of the two. Either way, it'll still be what it is and we'll be out the door again very soon.
